Madonna Says Adoption Plan In Line With Law
Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Madonna on Tuesday defended her plans to adopt a 13-month-old Malawian baby. The singer said she had respected "the law like anyone else who adopts a child."
A BBC report quotes her as saying, she wanted to "open up our home and help one child escape an extreme life of hardship, poverty and in many cases death". The little David Banda, who was shown in TV footage, flew from into London from Johannesburg with one of Madonna's bodyguards and a personal aide.
The singer was speaking after a group of Malawian charities called her adoption plan an "illegal" move on Monday. The group vowed to seek a court injunction to halt the adoption process.
The group, Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC), said the adoption of Banda did not respect local laws. The singer has not lived in the African country and therefore is not qualified to adopt the child, the group said.
Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie had their adoption file approved by an interim court order last week. The couple traveled to Britain over the weekend after a 10-day visit to Malawi.
Madonna and her husband have been involved in the fight against poverty and AIDS in the southern African country. Madonna has also pledged nearly $3 million to support 900,000 orphans in Malawi.

Madonna Adoption Story Yet To Be Confirmed Or Denied
Thursday, October 12, 2006
After having completed her worldwide 'Confessions on a Dancefloor' tour, Madonna has yet to confirm or deny reports that she has adopted a young boy from Malawi while on her recent trip to Africa.

Madonna already has two children, daughter Lourdes, 10, and son Rocco, 6, with director-husband Guy Ritchie.
According to earlier unconfirmed reports by the Malawian government, Madonna planned to adopt a Malawian boy while she visited the impoverished African nation to tour projects she funds for AIDS orphans. Madonna's spokesperson, however, has kept mum about the adoption plans.
Her publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said in an e-mailed statement: "I am unable to make any official statement at this time.''
Madonna's London-based publicist, however, says an official statement regarding the adoption story will be made within 48 hours.

Madonna To Dine With President Putin
Wednesday, August 23, 2006
Madonna has been invited to a private dinner with Russian President
Vladimir Putin when her Confessions tours hits Moscow next month.
The Material Girl has been eyeing a date with the political heavyweight for months, but it was Putin's daughters Maria and Katya, both huge Madonna fans, who eventually convinced him to make it happen.
A source tells The Sun newspaper, "This has been on the cards for a while. She really wanted to meet him but he wasn't sure initially."
Madonna's invitation distances Putin from the Russian Orthodox Church's stance on her impending show - the singer has already been lambasted by religious leaders in the country for her controversial 'crucifixion' stunt, with one churchman insisting she "needs spiritual assistance".
