Barbara Streisand Shouts Obscenity At Heckler During NY Show
Wednesday, October 11, 2006

Barbara Streisand sent a clear message to her adoring crowd during her sold out concert at Madison Square Garden when she shouted an obscenity at a heckler in the audience.

Monday night was the third show of her 20-stop tour. She took a break from singing to do a skit with a George Bush impersonator. The skit portrayed the president as an idiot and one person in the audience was not afraid to show his dismay.

Streisand first asked the audience to "Be polite." When that did not work she yelled "Shut the fuck up!" to the crowd. "Shut up if you can't take a joke."

After the outburst the show went on. Streisand continued by singing "Somewhere." After that the show went on without a hitch but the singer did apologize for the incident later.

Ellen Barkin's Jewelry Auction Nets Her $20.3 Million

Actress Ellen Barkin auctioned her wedding ring from her failed marriage to Revlon billionaire Ron Perelman. The ring was just one of nearly a hundred other jewelry pieces that earned her a total of $20.3 million at auction.

The ring, a wide band set with four rows of bell-cut diamonds topped in 18-carat gold raked in $130,000 surpassing a presale estimate of $50,000. The auction of her jewels was held at a Christie's sales room Tuesday evening.

The auction house however did not disclose the name of the buyer of the symbol of matrimony.

The other 103 pieces ranged from period jewels and gemstones, including a 22.76-carat diamond ring created by the 20th century American designer JAR that was purchased by a private American collector for $1.8 million, making it the highest priced item of the night.

The AP quotes Christie's as saying that Barking was "thrilled" with the money she collected from the sale, which was held in its largest sales room. "It was a packed room, and a packed, packed phone bank," Christie's said.

Rahul Kadakia, head of Christie's jewelry department, said in a statement that the $20.3 million total "makes Ellen Barkin's collection the highest single-owner jewelry sale of the past 15 years in the U.S. and also places it among the top four ever worldwide." The prices of all the sales include the auction house's commission.

Currently the actress is busy shooting "Ocean's Thirteen" with George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Mel Gibson Says He Has Not Touched Alcohol Since Arrest

Mel Gibson has said he has stayed sober and has not touched alcohol since his arrest for drunk-driving 65 days ago. Gibson was heard uttering anti-Semitic statements during his arrest.

Appearing for the first time since his arrest on "Good Morning America," the actor said that that his remarks had been "the stupid ramblings of a drunkard," and adds, "the last thing I want to be is that kind of monster."

He told the show's host Diane Sawyer that he had to "allay the fears of others and to heal" those who had been hurt.
After the arrest, he was fined $1,300 and his licenses suspended for three months.
The 50-year-old, who has previously been treated for alcoholism, said he began drinking two months before his July 28th arrest.
Gibson told Sawyer, "Years go by, and you're fine," he adds that a relapse could happen "in a heartbeat, in an instant, on an impulse."
"All you can do is take another step, keep breathing," he said.
He acknowledged that some people in Hollywood may not want to work with him because of his anti-Semitic remarks, but that won't stop him from making films.

"I feel sad because they've obviously been hurt and frightened and offended enough to feel that they have to do that. And it's their choice. There's nothing I can do about that."
His latest movie, the historical action adventure "Apocalypto," is due for release in December.
